Here in Central PA the Monarch raising season is coming to a close. It’s recommended that we stop bringing in caterpillars Aug. 31st or there’s a good chance the weather will be too cold for their return trip to Mexico.

But many of us still have “cats” in our mesh cages and the milkweed that can be found isn’t looking very edible. I have large milkweed leaves to share to help get your last little guys through to pupa stage. Local pickup. Bring a small bucket with a lid. I’ll add some water to keep them fresh. Please email me or call and let a message.

These are from my Giant milkweed plants and Common if I can still find whole leaves.

  1. Congratulations on the front page Merchandiser article! It was exciting to hear of a ‘neighbor’ into Monarchs like my daughters and I are, and we hope to stop out and see you this summer. And maybe get some answers how you control aphids on your milkweed, or if you’ve ever come across NVP like we did some years and lost too many. We also began trying to collect eggs to attempt saving them from the parasitic tachinid flies. So we’re always open for some tips on raising them!

    1. Hi Louise, thank you for your kind words and YES, please stop on out this summer with your daughter. I’ll be open every weekend this year. I love that you are collecting eggs and raising them in a safe environment. This really give them the best chance for survival. Aphids can indeed get out of hand quickly. Spraying the plants down with a hose is the fastest way to dislodge them and give the plants time to recover. This is best done before the Monarchs show up because the caterpillars would be washed off too. Sorry, I don’t know what NVP is. I hope that this year brings many more Monarchs to our gardens, thank you for being a part of that. Cindy

  2. Please remember to share if you have giant milkweed seeds thank you 🙂

    1. As soon as I see the first pod forming I’ll add the listing to my website. 🙂

  3. I need leaves! I have 12 cats left and very little milkweed – how can I get some of your beautiful leaves?

    1. Good morning Jacki, just let me know when you can stop in and I’ll make sure your little guys get the food they need. My address is on the post and please call 717-367-9656 to let me know if you need more directions along the way. Thank you for helping the Monarchs. 😀
