Pink Swamp Milkweed seeds, Asclepias Incarnata Pink

Description

Pink Swamp Milkweed – Asclepias incarnata pink  is a beautiful native milkweed that does well with wet feet, hence the name.  If you have a low-lying area that gets soggy during the rainy season this is a good milkweed to plant.  Mature plants will be 4′ – 5′ with many smaller leaves to feed dozens of caterpillars.  The Pink blooms are bright enough to attract many Monarchs for the nectar and prime egg laying spots.

Sowing.  Cold stratification of this species is optional.  Ready to sow now or in the spring.   Milkweed seeds need 3 main conditions met to germinate: light  moisture and warmth.  You can also start these indoors 6-8 weeks prior to planting out, for more details visit my blog.   

Growing.  Keep well watered the first year.  A well established plant will still prefer to be kept moist.  The original plant will not spread via roots like the Common M. but will self-seed and I’ve found those seedlings can be transplanted while young.
